A few preliminary notes:
  • Proselytize means to convert or attempt to convert as a proselyte; recruit.
  • Penn is an American magician, comedian, illusionist, juggler, musician and writer known for his work with fellow illusionist Teller in the team Penn & Teller, and advocacy of atheism, libertarian philosophy, free-market economics, and scientific skepticism.
  • Christians should not fear in seeking to convert others because it is more so about obedience to God than fearing men (Psalm 118:6; Romans 8:31).
  • This is a reblog from Kevin DeYoung at http://thegospelcoalition.org/blogs/kevindeyoung/2009/10/14/how-much-do-you-have-to-hate-somebody-to-not-proselytize/ (in bold)

If we believe there is a real heaven and a real hell, we should be moved to evangelize and to reach out in the name of Jesus. If we love people, our hearts should propel us. I heard one of the most convincing arguments for this from an atheist. His name is Penn, the well-known illusionist in the duo Penn and Teller. On his video blog, Penn Says, he tells about a man who came to him after a show and gave him a Bible and tried to proselytize him.  Here is a portion of his response to that encounter [the rest is Penn telling the story]:
